Advocate reporter named one of the top statehouse reporters in the country

The Washington Post on Friday named Advocate reporter Michelle Millhollon one of the best state capitol reporters in the country.

The newspaper asked readers to name the best statehouse reporters focused on governors and state lawmakers.

Readers, fellow journalists and legislators all weighed in before the results were announced Friday morning on the Post’s “GovBeat” blog.

The Post also named Lauren McGaughy, a political reporter for NOLA.com.

Millhollon, a Thibodaux native who grew up in Bossier City, has been covering the Louisiana Legislature since 2005 and has covered Govs. Bobby Jindal and Kathleen Blanco.

Millhollon gained recognition in 2005 for covering the Blanco administration’s response to Hurricane Katrina.

She previously covered cops and courts for The Advocate.
