State offering schools $1.7 million in grants

Public and private schools have until Feb. 17 at 4:30 p.m. to apply for $1.7 million in state education grants.

The aid is aimed at helping to finance innovative efforts that raise student achievement from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.

The application deadline is being extended by two weeks.

The state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education will approve projects for funding by April 30.

Proposals can be submitted by individual public and private schools, school districts and state agencies.
