Parents interested in registering children for prekindergarten classes in East Baton Rouge Parish can learn more about their options starting Saturday as the school system holds the first of two informational events.
The 2014-15 school year Pre-K application period starts Monday, Jan. 27, and ends the following Friday.
Here are the dates, times and locations of the two “Preschool Paloozas” being held in advance of the application period:
- Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cortana Mall, 9401 Cortana Place.
- Wednesday, 4 to 6 p.m. at Woodlawn Middle School, 14939 Tiger Bend Road.
To qualify, children must reside within the boundaries of the parish school system and be 4 years old on or before Sept. 30, 2014. Children who apply will undergo a screening at the school of their choice. Placement is determined in part based on the academic need of the child. Some sites have more applicants than space. In mid-to-late March, the school system will mail out notices of acceptance and non-acceptance.
The program is free for those whose qualify for the free and reduced-priced lunches. Other families may be charged a sliding scale fee based on family income.
More information about the Pre-K program can be found on the school system’s Web site at http://pre-k.ebrschools.org.
