LIVINGSTON — A Maurepas man was sentenced to 20 years in state prison after pleading no contest Monday to forcible rape of a child who was younger than 13 at the time, the 21st Judicial District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday.
Luke C. Carrier, 36, 23035 La. 22, Maurepas, received his sentence from Judge Bob Morrison in state District Court in Livingston Parish, the District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.
Livingston Parish sheriff’s deputies arrested Carrier on Sept. 21, 2012, after the victim’s mother filed a complaint, the release said.
The crimes allegedly happened between 2009 and 2012, the news release said.
Carrier was scheduled to begin a jury trial Monday but chose to change his plea, the release said.
Editor’s note: This story was changed Jan. 16, 2014, to reflect that the gender of the victim was never made public.
