Lafayette motorcyclist run over, killed Lafayette motorcyclist run over, killed Advocate staff report Jan. 22, 2014 Comments A Lafayette motorcyclist was killed Tuesday night when he rode into a truck stopped for traffic in the 400 block of La Neuville Road, police said. The man was ejected from his Kawasaki, then run over by a car traveling in the opposite direction, police said. Richard Carruth Jr., 39, was pronounced dead at the scene, Broussard Police Chief Brannon Decou said. Decou said in an email that Carruth was wearing a helmet but riding with a suspended driver’s license and alcohol might have played a role in the crash. He said toxicology samples have been submitted for testing. Carruth was westbound on La Neuville Road “when he just barely struck the rear of a Ford work truck that was stopping for traffic congestion. ...,” Decou said. Carruth was hit by a 2009 Lexus SUV driven by Michelle Evans, 58, of New Iberia. “The driver of the Lexus stated that she was driving east on La Neuville and heard a loud noise under the vehicle so she stopped and noticed a crash had just occurred. Evans and the driver of the Ford work truck, Nathan Chelette, 29, of Lafayette, were not injured and not suspected of driving while impaired. The crash remains under investigation.
