St. Landry student booked in school arson St. Landry student booked in school arson Shavera Welcome Advocate staff report Jan. 19, 2014 Comments OPELOUSAS — A Northwest High School student in St. Landry Parish has been booked on one count of aggravated arson for allegedly setting fire to a school trash, sheriff’s officials said. Shavera A. Welcome, 17, was arrested Friday after school administrators filed a complaint about Welcome starting the fire in a girls rest room, Capt. Megan Vizena said in a release. “Welcome advised deputies she started the fire because she was upset that she was forced to go to school,” Vizena said. Welcome, whose residence is listed as 1345 Jessie B. Road, Opelousas, is being held in lieu of $7,500 bail in the St. Landry Parish Jail.
