Man booked, accused of Dec. 9 robbery
A 28-year-old man accused of robbing a Jack in the Box restaurant on Dec. 9, then firing at police while they chased him on foot, has been arrested.
Baton Rouge police booked Willie Vinning, 2330 Jefferson Ave., Baton Rouge, into Parish Prison Monday on counts of attempted first-degree murder of a police officer and armed robbery.
Vinning allegedly pulled into the drive-through lane of the restaurant at 2805 Scenic Highway at 3:05 a.m. in a gold Chevrolet Cavalier and climbed into the building through the window.
He is accused of demanding money from two employees and stole an undisclosed amount of money from the store. While driving away, police spotted his car and tried to pull him over. He drove about 2 miles with police in pursuit before crashing his car into a fence at North 25th and Willow streets.
He jumped out of the car, and while running from police, fired a single shot at the officers, police claim. No one was injured.
BR woman, 57, dies after her car hit tree
A 57-year-old Baton Rouge woman died Monday when her vehicle crossed the median and struck a pine tree in the 900 block of Tara Boulevard shortly before 3:40 p.m.
Baton Rouge police spokesman Cpl. Don Coppola Jr. identified the victim as Patti Magee Reed, 8011-C Summa Ave.
Coppola said while the investigation is ongoing, detectives believe the crash occurred after Reed failed to stay on the road as her car rounded a curve, jumped a curb, ran over the median and through the other lane before hitting the tree.
Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor and the cause of death is unknown pending an autopsy, Coppola said.
