Central Community schools will be closed to students Tuesday, the day they were to return from the holiday break, because of the cold snap, Superintendent Michael Faulk said Sunday night.
Faulk said he will decide Monday whether the faculty and staff should come in Tuesday.
He said he was closing the schools because of the low temperatures forecast and even lower wind-chill factor. The National Weather Service forecast calls for cold temperatures and gusty winds Tuesday associated with an Arctic air mass that will bring dangerously cold wind chills.
In Baton Rouge, the wind chill is expected to be as low as 10 degrees on Tuesday.
