Firefighters battle residential fire on St. Ferdinand Street

Baton Rouge firefighters battled a large residential blaze in downtown Baton Rouge for nearly an hour beginning about 10 p.m. Friday.

The fire began in a house in the 600 block of St. Ferdinand Street, a block south of the River Center, said Robert Combs, a Baton Rouge Fire Department spokesman.

No one was injured in the fire, which was under control by about 10:45 p.m. The fire did not spread to any nearby residences or offices, Combs said.

It was unclear late Friday what caused the fire and whether anyone lived at the house that went up in flames.

No other information was available late Friday.
