Plaquemine man dies in crash Plaquemine man dies in crash Westside bureau Jan. 24, 2014 Comments ST. GABRIEL — A 24-year-old Plaquemine man died late Thursday from injuries he sustained in a single-vehicle crash along River Road, a spokesman with State Police said Friday. Cedrick D. Smith was killed after the car he was riding in veered off the road and hit a telephone pole near the ferry landing on La. 75 in St. Gabriel, Trooper 1st Class Jared Sandifer said. Smith was a passenger in a car driven by Wilbert Pryer, 23, also from Plaquemine, Sandifer said. Authorities believe Pryer was speeding and lost control of his 2013 Dodge Charger along a curve of La. 75 at about 9 p.m. Pryer suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, Sandifer said. Neither man was wearing a seat belt, he added. A blood sample from Pryer was sent to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis as authorities continue the investigation, Sandifer said.
