Candle near Christmas tree blamed for Zachary fire

ZACHARY A woman and her two children escaped a fire Thursday morning in their mobile home on Old Scenic Highway, Zachary Fire Chief Danny Kimble said.

The preliminary cause of the fire was a flickering candle sitting too close to the family’s Christmas tree, Kimble said in a news release.

The fire, at 22611 Old Scenic Highway, was called in at 10:14 a.m. and was under control less than 10 minutes later.

The mother discovered the fire and escaped with the children through a window, Kimble said.

Paramedics treated the mother for a minor cut she got from broken window glass.

Although there is a preliminary cause for the fire, the blaze is still under investigation.
