WALKER — The Walker Police Department is investigating its first homicide in years after a woman’s body was found New Year’s Day inside a gated community home.
The woman, described as in her mid 30s, was found at about noon Wednesday with apparent gunshot wounds inside a home in the Village Maison Townhomes, said Capt. John Sharp, a Walker police spokesman.
Police are waiting to release the woman’s name pending notification of her family, Sharp said.
The gated community is east of Walker South Road, between Florida Boulevard and Interstate 12.
Walker hasn’t recorded a homicide in “probably 7 or 8 years,” Sharp said, although he could not provide an exact date for the most recent killing.
“It’s been quite a while,” he said.
There are several people of interest in the homicide investigation, but police have not identified any suspects.
Police are looking for the woman’s late 1990s black Lexus sedan, which is missing from the home, Sharp said.
Investigators believe the woman was dead for at least 12 hours before she was found, Sharp said.
Police plan to release more information about the ongoing investigation Thursday, Sharp said.
