BR man, 22, arrested in attempted robbery

Baton Rouge police arrested a 22-year-old man Friday accused of trying to rob a gas station on Perkins Road.

Police booked Cory Michael Berthelot, 15540 Confederate Ave., Baton Rouge, into Parish Prison on counts of attempted first-degree robbery.

As the clerk opened the cash register, Berthelot leaned in and said, “Give me all your money” while pulling up his jacket as if to show he had a handgun, the affidavit of probable cause says.

The clerk slammed the register shut and Berthelot walked out the door, cursing and screaming at the clerk before getting into a waiting vehicle, the affidavit says.

The clerk got the license plate number and called police, who stopped the vehicle nearby, the affidavit says.

Berthelot told police he did tell the clerk to give him all the money, but said it was intended as a joke, the affidavit says.
