Jackson man accused of home invasion

East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputies arrested a 25-year-old man Sunday, accused of breaking into a woman’s apartment and destroying an entertainment center and television with a baseball bat three days after eluding deputies outside her apartment.

Lamarco Deshun Webb, 3953 La. 952, Jackson, was booked into Parish Prison on counts of home invasion, simple criminal damage to property, stalking and resisting an officer.

Deputies responded to the victim’s apartment Thursday after she said Webb was at her front door crying, banging on the door and turning the door knob, trying to enter, the arrest warrants say.

Deputies found Webb hiding in nearby bushes, but he was able to elude authorities and police dogs, the warrants say.

On Sunday, he returned and entered through the front door he damaged during the previous incident, the warrants say.

He walked into the victim’s bedroom while she slept, woke her and the two began arguing, the warrants say.

When the victim walked outside, Webb grabbed an aluminum baseball bat from her closet and smashed the furniture, the warrants say.

No injuries in Monday fire at Super 8 motel

The occupant of a room that caught fire at the Super 8 motel at 10451 Reiger Road early Monday wasn’t inside when the fire started and the cause of the blaze remains unknown, the St. George Fire Department announced.

A fire investigator was called to the scene.

The report of the fire came at 2:36 a.m., with firefighters arriving at 2:41 a.m. to find heavy black smoke coming from a breezeway and a fire in Room 219, St. George spokesperson Eldon Ledoux said.

The department deployed five fire engines, two ladder trucks and a rescue unit, keeping the fire contained to the one room and contents, and having the blaze under control by 2:59 a.m., he said.

Motel management reported that all occupants were evacuated and accounted for, and there were no injuries, Ledoux said.
