Super 8 fire contained to Room 219; cause unknown

The occupant of a room that caught fire at the Super 8 motel at 10451 Reiger Road early Monday wasn’t inside when the fire started and the cause of the blaze remains unknown, the St. George Fire Department announced.

A fire investigator was called to the scene.

The report of the fire came at 2:36 a.m. with firefighters arriving at 2:41 a.m. to find heavy black smoke coming from a breezeway and a fire in Room 219, St. George spokesperson Eldon Ledoux said.

The department deployed five fire engines, two ladder trucks and a rescue unit, keeping the fire contained to the one room and contents and having the blaze under control by 2:59 a.m., he said.

Motel management reported all occupants evacuated and accounted for and there were no injuries, Ledoux said.
