A motorist hit and killed a man walking along Interstate 55 near Amite in Tangipahoa Parish on Friday night, State Police said.
Demetrius J. Ruffin, 46, Independence, was walking on the right side of the roadway, near the fog lane of I-55 about 8:30 p.m. Friday, Master Trooper Greg Marchand said Saturday in a news release.
Sierah B. Brabham, 25, Amite, was driving a 2008 Dodge Avenger, also in the right lane of I-55.
When Brabham came upon Ruffin, the right front of her car lifted him off the ground. Ruffin flew onto the Avenger and over the top before landing on the right shoulder of the roadway. He died at the scene, Marchand said.
There was no indication of intoxication on the part of the driver, who was wearing a seat belt, the release says. Blood was taken from Ruffin and submitted for analysis, the release says.
