Bishop Robert Muench and community volunteers will distribute gifts to needy and homeless children at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s annual Christmas event on Saturday.
Bishop Muench will be serving as St. Nicholas, the fourth-century bishop who used his inheritance to assist the needy, sick and suffering; the volunteers as elves. They will distribute toys to needy children at 9 a.m. Saturday in the St. Vincent de Paul Dining Room, 220 St. Vincent de Paul Place.
St. Vincent de Paul began the annual event 18 years ago to bring Christmas cheer to children who need it most.
Those wishing to donate can bring new toys to the dining room or mail a financial gift to St. Vincent de Paul Toy Drive, P.O. Box 127, Baton Rouge, LA 70821.
The Needy of Greater Baton Rouge has teamed up with St. Vincent de Paul for The St. Nicholas Challenge again this year and will match every toy or financial gift with a gift of equal value. For more information, call (225) 383-7837, ext. 0.
