UL-Lafayette will meet Tulane in N.O. Bowl
LAFAYETTE — The sea of vermilion that will roll through the Superdome next Saturday is growing, with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s ticket sales for the New Orleans Bowl exceeding 19,000 as of Friday, said Matt Casbon, UL-Lafayette ticket manager.
“We’re still receiving orders,” Casbon said.
The Ragin’ Cajuns make their third consecutive appearance in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl next Saturday in a game against Tulane University.
UL-Lafayette received an increased allotment of 16,000 tickets this year after exceeding its allotment in the past two years. Casbond said they are expecting to sell more than the 21,000 tickets the university sold last year.
“We’ve exceeded our original allotment of 16,000 and we’ve had to call multiple times to get more tickets,” he said.
Casbon said tickets may be purchased through the UL-Lafayette ticket office through Wednesday and picked up at the Cajundome through 6 p.m. Thursday. After that, tickets purchased will be available at two will-call locations in New Orleans: on Friday during the Ragin’ Cajuns Fan Fest at the Marriott, 555 Canal St., and on Saturday at the Superdome.
Tickets will be available on game day through half-time.
“We work until the end of half-time,” Casbon said.
A steady stream of fans stopped by the ticket office during lunch hour Friday to pick up tickets.
This will be Stefanie Sonnier’s first UL-Lafayette bowl game.
“My daughter’s a freshman on the track team and I’m going to support all the other sports,” Sonnier said.
Sonnier, her daughter, Chelcie, and a small group of friends and family plan to travel to New Orleans on Friday to enjoy the fan events and another must-do while in New Orleans for the weekend: “We’ll do some Christmas shopping,” Sonnier said.
The bowl game is more than a game — it’s an experience.
“I think people enjoy the week of festivities leading up to the game,” Casbon said. “People don’t want to miss out on the party.”
