An East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury charged a 19-year-old man Thursday in the Sept. 6 slaying of another man near BREC’s Spanishtown Park.
Mrcarl Coleman, 1238 S. 16th St., was indicted on a second-degree murder count in the fatal shooting of Dwayne Foster on Foster’s 48th birthday.
Coleman was driving Foster’s car near Interstate 12 at Sherwood Forest Boulevard in the early morning hours of Sept. 7 when authorities located him with Foster’s state-issued identification and a credit card, an affidavit of probable cause says.
A search of Foster’s car on Sept. 10 revealed a weapon which State Police crime lab analysts used to match ballistic information from the gun to evidence collected from the initial crime scene, the affidavit states.
A second-degree murder conviction would result in an automatic sentence of life in prison.
The case has been assigned to state District Judge Lou Daniel.
