HAMMOND — Hammond police are looking for two men accused of using a blow torch in an unsuccessful attempt to break into an ATM Monday at a bank on Southwest Railroad Avenue.
The two men are wanted on counts of attempted theft and criminal damage to property for trying to damage the ATM at the Capital One Bank at 1200 Southwest Railroad Ave., Police Department spokesman Lt. Vincent Giannobile said in a news release.
Bank officials alerted police around 8 a.m. Monday. Police retrieved surveillance footage of men believed to be the torch bearers, Giannobile said.
One man was dressed with an orange hooded sweatshirt and some kind of protective facial gear. The other was carrying what appeared to be a welding torch with a gas tank on his back.
