Police search for Jack in the Box robber

Baton Rouge police are searching for the man who fired a shot at officers chasing him after he robbed a Jack in the Box restaurant early Monday, a police spokesman said.

The robber pulled into the drive-thru lane of the restaurant at 2805 Scenic Highway at 3:05 a.m. in a gold Chevrolet Cavalier car and climbed into the building through the drive-thru window, Cpl. Don Coppla Jr, the spokesman said.

He demanded money from two employees and stole an undisclosed amount of money from the store, Coppola said.

While driving away, police spotted his car and tried to pull him over, Coppola said. He drove about two miles with police in pursuit before crashing his car into a fence.

He jumped out of the car, and while running from police, fired a single shot at the officers, Coppola said, adding that no one was injured.

The robber is described as a black man between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall. He wore a black and white stripped hooded sweatshirt, a gray T-shirt and red hat, Coppola said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Baton Rouge police at 389-3845 or Crime Stoppers at 344-7867.
