Victim identified in Highland Road crash

State Police on Saturday identified the driver of a pickup truck who died Friday night after he lost control on Highland Road near Pecue Lane and crashed.

Matthew J. Tucker, 28, of Pineville, was westbound on Highland Road about 8:30 p.m. when his 2005 Ford pickup drifted off the road to the right, Trooper First Class Jared Sandifer said in a news release.

Tucker overcorrected to the left, crossed both lanes and veered off the road. The truck barreled into a ditch before slamming into several trees.

Tucker, who was wearing a seat belt, died in the wreck, Sandifer said.

State Police do not know if impairment was a factor in the crash. However, they took a toxicology sample from Tucker for testing, Sandifer said.
