Bail increased for 2 Port Allen men
PORT ALLEN — A state district court judge on Friday increased the bail for two Port Allen men who now face more allegations in the sexual abuse of a 12-year-old girl, according to records released by the 18th Judicial District Court.
Bail for Clarence Tillman, 60, one of six people arrested in the case, was increased from $10,000 to $300,000 after the counts against him were upgraded to principal to aggravated rape from principal to rape and oral sexual battery.
District Judge Robin Free increased the bail set for Tillman, 358 Tracey Porter St., Port Allen, after the court received new information late Thursday night about his alleged role in the victim’s sexual assault.
Free also increased bail for Brandon Edwards, 26, of the same address as Tillman, after an additional count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor was added to his list of alleged offenses, which include two counts of oral sexual battery.
Bail for Edwards was increased from $50,000 to $125,000 after authorities added an additional count of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. He also faces additional counts in East Baton Rouge Parish related to the investigation.
Tillman and Edwards were arrested Tuesday by the Port Allen Police Department and booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail.
According to court records, Tillman masturbated while watching Edwards and Martin sexually assault the victim on the kitchen floor in their apartment on two separate occasions in May and June. The original affidavits stated Tillman had only watched the sexual abuse.
Other arrests in the case were made late Monday when East Baton Rouge sheriff’s deputies arrested Arthur Lee Jones, 55, 4607 Chapeau Drive, Baker, and Michael Jerrold Sherbin, 35, 1714 Cedar Lake Drive, Baton Rouge, and booked each on one count each of aggravated rape. Ivy E. Martin, a Port Allen sex offender, is at the center of the investigation, accused of raping the girl repeatedly and arranging sexual encounters between the girl and several other adults in East Baton Rouge and West Baton Rouge parishes. Martin, 38, was arrested by East Baton Rouge sheriff’s deputies and booked with aggravated rape.
An aggravated rape warrant was also issued Thursday for Jessica D. Carr.
Carr, 22, 21324 Orme St., Abita Springs, is accused of performing oral sex on the girl in September while Martin masturbated. She remained at large Friday.
Officials said they expect the number of people arrested to grow as the investigation continues and the full extent of the girl’s exploitation becomes clear.
