Lafayette police searching for bank robber

Lafayette police are looking for a man who entered Teche Federal Bank on Johnston Street at 1:45 p.m. and grabbed money from where a teller had been counting cash behind a window, officials said.

Cpl. Paul Mouton said the robber, with a medium build wearing a black shirt, walked up to a counter and “reached over and stole an undisclosed amount of cash.”

The man, whose image was captured on a bank camera, fled on foot from Teche Federal Bank at 1001 Johnston St.

Mouton said the unidentified bandit did not brandish a weapon during the heist. For now, he is wanted on one count of simple robbery.
