Man dies in accident Tuesday afternoon

A Baton Rouge man died Tuesday afternoon when he lost control of his Jeep Wrangler in the Cortana Mall parking lot, struck a tree and rolled over.

Scott Adams, 39, 8939 Jefferson Highway, died from injuries sustained in the crash that occurred at 3:22 p.m., Baton Rouge police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said.

Adams was driving around a curve when his tire struck a curb, he lost control and hit a tree in a grassy area, McKneely said. After hitting the tree, the Jeep rolled over onto its top, McKneely said.

A passenger, a 16-year-old male, was transported to a local hospital and was treated for minor injuries, McKneely said.

Adams was pronounced dead at the scene, McKneely said. He said alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, McKneely said.
