GONZALES — A correctional officer with Elayn Hunt Correctional Center in St. Gabriel has been arrested and booked with, among other counts, conspiracy to introduce contraband to a prison.
Daron Toussant Sr., 48, of 36365 La. 74, Geismar, was arrested Thursday and booked with possession of intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute synthetic marijuana, illegal use of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a person under 17 and illegal carrying of a weapon, in addition to the above-named conspiracy count, according to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The arrest came after an internal investigation at the Elayn Hunt Correctional Center and a subsequent investigation by Ascension Parish narcotics detectives who searched Toussant’s home.
Detectives seized marijuana, synthetic marijuana and a handgun and learned that Toussant’s 14-year-old son lived with him, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
Toussant was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail where his bond had not yet been set as of Friday afternoon.
