Second suspect arrested in Alicia’s Food Mart robbery

Tangipahoa Parish sheriff’s deputies arrested a second man in the September armed robbery of a Ponchatoula food store, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Nelson Pierre, 26, of Ponchatoula, surrendered to authorities Tuesday after the Sheriff’s Office said he was a suspect in the Sept. 27 robbery of Alicia’s Food Mart on La. 22, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Dawn Panepinto said in a news release.

Ponchatoula police arrested Duane Bissell, 22, of Amite, last week on unrelated counts, Panepinto said.

When officers interviewed Bissell, he confessed to committing the Alicia’s Food Mart robbery and said Pierre was his accomplice, Panepinto said.

The two robbers wore gloves and masks when they robbed the store’s cashier at gunpoint, Panepinto said. One of the robbers pointed a gun at the cashier while the other one emptied the cash registers.

Pierre and Bissell were booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on a count of armed robbery, Panepinto said.
