AMITE — Amite police are investigating an armed robbery and shooting at a convenience store Thursday night in which the robbers donned Halloween masks and shot the store’s owner.
Two men walked into a convenience store on U.S. 51 near La. 16 around 8 p.m. armed with guns and wearing masks of Freddy Krueger, the villain from the “A Nightmare on Elm Street” film series, Amite Police Chief Jerry Trabona said.
The owner began running out the door when one of the men shot his gun, apparently down toward the floor, Trabona said. The owner was hit in the right side of his back.
The owner was taken to a New Orleans hospital and was in stable condition Friday, Trabona said.
The men robbed the store and then fled, Trabona said.
One suspect is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, while the other one was about 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall with a skinny build, Trabona said. Both were seen wearing light-colored hooded sweatshirts.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa at 1-800-554-5245 or the Amite Police Department at (985) 748-7979.
