Authorities are investigating two bank robberies that happened within two hours of each other Friday morning in East Baton Rouge Parish, but do not appear to be related.
The first occurred about 9 a.m. when an unidentified man walked into the Chase Bank branch inside Albertsons on College Drive carrying a note that demanded cash from a clerk, Baton Rouge police said. He grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene on foot.
Authorities described the robber as a 30-year-old black man, about 5 foot 7 inches tall, weighing 210 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and khaki pants.
About 11 a.m., East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s officials responded to a bank robbery at the Regions Bank at 8756 Siegen Lane. Authorities said a man wearing a long black wig entered the bank and gave the teller a note saying he had a gun and demanding money.
“The teller did not actually see the weapon,” said Casey Rayborn Hicks, a Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman. “He fled with an undisclosed amount of money.”
The Regions Bank robber was described as a black man wearing a navy blue hat, a white “thermal-type shirt” with a navy blue shirt over it, dark pants and gray gloves. He was between 30 and 35 years old, weighed between 180 and 200 pounds and was about 5 feet 9 inches tall, authorities said.
He was seen fleeing in the direction of Siegen and Perkins Road.
Hicks said the two robberies appear to be unrelated, given the different descriptions of the robbers.
