LAFAYETTE — A Lafayette man was in guarded condition at a hospital Thursday after being shot in the stomach by one of two assailants who fired after the victim recognized the threat and shoved two school-age children back inside a north Lafayette home, police said.
Lafayette police Cpl. Paul Mouton said officers were combing the area near the 100 block of Tennessee Street for the attackers.
Mouton said the victim, 55, walked from inside the home and onto the porch with two children and was confronted by the men wearing hooded sweatshirts and demanding money.
The victim, who was not identified, managed to get the children back into the home before one of the robbers shot him in the stomach. Mouton said the attack occurred at 7:40 a.m.
