NEW ROADS — A 73-year-old Mississippi man who was killed in a crash along La. 1 on Friday died of injuries sustained in the crash, not of a medical condition prior to running off the road, a spokesman with State Police said Tuesday.
Robert Sims Sr., of Woodville, Miss., was driving a cane truck about 6 a.m. Oct. 19 when he veered off the road for unknown reasons and crashed into a ditch along La. 1, north of Hospital Road in Pointe Coupee Parish, Trooper First Class Jared Sandifer said in a news release.
Sims’ tractor-trailer overturned and struck a culvert, Sandifer said.
Sandifer said Tuesday investigators initially thought Sims had suffered from a medical condition prior to the crash but an autopsy revealed Sims wasn’t wearing a seat belt and died from injuries from the crash.
