GONZALES — The investigation into the Thursday night shooting death of Jules Bennett Weil is continuing even though Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office made an arrest in the case.
David Adams Jr., 26, of Prairieville, was booked on second-degree murder in the shooting death of Weil, 34, of St. Amant.
The shooting occurred shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday at 42402 Cannon Road, Ascension Parish Chief Criminal Deputy Tony Bacala said.
When deputies arrived, they found Weil wounded and unresponsive in a pickup registered to Adams.
Weil was rushed to a local hospital, where he later died.
Adams, who had apparently fled on foot, was found a short time later not far from the scene of the shooting and was taken into custody.
Detectives learned that shortly before the shooting both men were visiting a relative of Weil’s at the home on Cannon Road.
During the visit, Adams became upset when Weil didn’t want to leave with him, a Sheriff’s Office report says. Weil eventually agreed to leave with Adams and seconds after the two left, witnesses heard gunfire and found Weil wounded inside the truck on the driveway.
