A 21-year-old man surrendered to authorities Tuesday morning in a nonfatal shooting early Saturday outside a club in the village of Tangipahoa, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
Raymond Brown, of Amite, was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on a count of aggravated battery, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Dawn Panepinto said in a news release.
Deputies were helping bar managers clear the parking lot of Club 81 on U.S. 51 after the bar closed when several gunshots rang out, Panepinto has said.
Deputies discovered a 20-year-old Kentwood man had been shot in the leg. The victim was running away from Brown when Brown allegedly shot him in the leg, Panepinto said.
The club is owned and operated by Michael Jackson, a former mayor of the village of Tangipahoa, secretary of state records show.
Jackson said Monday he was aware of the shooting but not the details surrounding it. He said he hires deputies to handle security in the bar’s parking lot.
