Although East Baton Rouge Parish isn’t included in any of the current Tropical Storm Karen watches or warnings, the parish and surrounding areas could get some rain this weekend. In anticipation of the inclement weather there are some closures and updates:
Ascension state of emergency
Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez on Friday declared a state of emergency for the parish. Parish drainage department pump station crews are on standby through the weekend and sand bags have been filled and stockpiled. Points of distribution will be advertised through the local media if the need arises.
Metro Airport flights as usual
Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport reported Friday afternoon that all flights to and from the airport were operating as usual and are expected to operate as usual during the weekend. There have been no flight cancellations, but passengers traveling this weekend should check with their airlines for any updates.
BR Arts Market postponed
The Baton Rouge Arts Market scheduled Saturday has been postponed because of the threat of bad weather. The market has been rescheduled to 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 12 at the same location, in the St. Joseph Cathedral parking lot at Fifth Street and Main Street.
Housing Expo canceled
The North Baton Rouge Housing Expo scheduled for Saturday at the Delmont Service Center in Baton Rouge has been canceled due to concerns about the weather. The event will be rescheduled and announced soon.
Counsel of Parents Workshop canceled
The Counsel of Parents Workshop scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Delmont Community Center in Baton Rouge has been canceled and will be rescheduled for a later date.
