HAMMOND — A 32-year-old man died Thursday night in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 55 in Hammond near U.S. 190, a Hammond Police Department spokesman said.
Charlie Thomas Netterville, of McComb, Miss., was driving a 2008 GMC Sierra pickup north on I-55 around 8 p.m. when he suddenly veered to the right, Lt. Vincent Giannobile said in a news release.
The truck went into a spin and moved sideways across the roadway, plowing through a fence at the Community Motors car dealership near I-55 and U.S. 190, and striking a 2006 Dodge Ram pickup and a 2004 Lincoln Navigator in the parking lot.
Netterville was ejected from the truck before it finally came to rest on its side about 25 feet from the fence, Giannobile said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers are not sure if impairment was a factor in the crash but have submitted a blood sample for analysis at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab, Giannobile said.
