A 24-year-old Port Barre man died Sunday morning after being struck by a car while standing near the shoulder of U.S. 190 east of Port Barre, State Police Troop I said.
A vehicle driven by the victim, Jordan Arnaud, ran out of gas at 4 a.m. on the highway, prompting Arnaud to pull over to the road’s shoulder and exit the vehicle, Trooper Stephen Hammons said.
While standing partially in the road and speaking to passengers in his vehicle, Arnaud was struck by a 1991 Dodge Dynasty heading eastbound on US 190, Hammons said.
The St. Landry Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced Arnaud dead at the scene, Hammons said.
The driver of the Dodge, Elliott Lazard, 56, of Port Barre, was not injured in the crash, which remains under investigation, Hammons said.
