Lafayette teen booked in killing faces charge in unrelated shooting Lafayette teen booked in killing faces charge in unrelated shooting Acadiana bureau Aug. 31, 2013 Comments LAFAYETTE — A 15-year-old booked on a first-degree murder charge in a killing on Aug. 18 faces a new charge of attempted second-degree murder in an unrelated shooting on Aug. 8, police said Friday. The teenager, whose name has not been released because he is a juvenile, was arrested Wednesday in the shooting death of 51-year-old Connie Burch of Pineville, whose body was found on a sidewalk along Madeline Avenue about 1 a.m. on Aug. 18. The 15-year-old now faces an additional charge of attempted second-degree murder for allegedly shooting and injuring a 27-year-old man on Aug. 8, said Lafayette Police spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton. The man called police from Landry Street and University Avenue, reporting he had been shot in the jaw while riding his bike in the early morning hours through a nearby neighborhood, Mouton said. The man could not remember the precise location of the shooting, Mouton said. Police are still investigating possible motives in both cases, Mouton said, and the teenager is not a suspect in any other shootings at this time. The 15-year-old is being held in the Lafayette Parish Juvenile Detention Center.
