Hammond man booked on battery count following Sunday shooting

Authorities arrested a 25-year-old man Monday accused of shooting a 20-year-old man in the leg Sunday after a brief argument.

Travon Pitts, of Lowes Lane in Hammond, was arrested Monday in Livingston Parish by sheriff’s deputies on counts unrelated to the shooting, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Dawn Panepinto said in a news release. Pitts will be booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on one count of second-degree battery.

The victim, Dejaun Anderson, 20, and his sister were standing outside his apartment on Happywoods Road when a maroon-colored vehicle pulled up beside them, Panepinto said.

Pitts, who was in the the vehicle, made comments to Anderson’s sister and Anderson replied before Pitts shot Anderson, Panepinto said.
