Rum House to open in BR this fall Rum House to open in BR this fall BY CHAD CALDER| Advocate business writer July 06, 2013 Comments The owners of the Rum House said the Baton Rouge location of the Caribbean-themed taqueria should be open on Perkins Road near Essen Lane by the end of the year. The original Rum House, on Magazine Street in New Orleans, serves jerk chicken, tacos and tropical mixed-drinks. The Baton Rouge location will do the same on a half-acre site on the south side of Perkins between Kenilworth Parkway in front of the Perkins Palms development. The 4,000-square-foot building will be “West Indies”-style with storm shutters, exposed ceilings and garage doors opening up to a large patio. Construction began last week and should be complete in four to five months, according to a news release. The Rum House is owned and operated by Kelly Ponder, Michael Buchert, and Terri Savoie. Ponder and Buchert, both originally from Baton Rouge and graduates of Catholic High School and LSU, have said opening a Baton Rouge location was always a dream of theirs. “Ever since our New Orleans location settled in, Baton Rouge has always been on the radar,” Ponder said in a news release. “We’ve always wanted to open up a restaurant in our hometown and this location was perfect.” The property is being developed by Kent Walker and Donnie Jarreau and the deal was brokered by Alex Knight from Donnie Jarreau Real Estate Inc. and Colin Holmes from SRSA Commercial Real Estate.
