Officer from chase video suspended in unrelated case Officer from chase video suspended in unrelated case Advocate staff report July 01, 2013 Comments A Baton Rouge police officer has been suspended amid an internal investigation. Police confirmed that Officer David K. Stewart was placed on administrative leave Friday. Lt. Don Kelly, a police spokesman, refused to say what prompted the investigation and also would not say when it began. Stewart’s suspension came on June 21, two days before The Advocate published a video of a traffic stop in which Stewart pulled over another off-duty police officer for speeding and driving erratically in Livingston Parish. Both officers were “verbally counseled” after the traffic stop, which took place outside Stewart’s jurisdiction. Kelly said the internal inquiry is “completely unrelated” to that April 2012 traffic stop. Attempts to reach Stewart for comment were unsuccessful.
