Driver in fatal hit-and-run crash turns self in

A Baton Rouge woman turned herself in to police Friday in the wake of a fatal hit-and-run accident that killed a 52-year-old homeless man Thursday night.

Latisha Gant, 39, 5625 Silverleaf Ave., was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Friday on counts of felony hit-and-run, according to Baton Rouge police.

The homeless pedestrian was struck by a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe around 9:35 p.m. Thursday in the 6000 block of Greenwell Street as he was attempting to cross the road, police said.

The victim was transported by paramedics to Baton Rouge General Medical Center Mid-City, where he died.

The victim’s family has not been identified, located or notified, so his name is not being released.
