A 45-year-old man was shot to death by his older brother early Saturday morning in the driveway of their parents’ home, Baton Rouge police reported.
Wayne Hebert Jr., 45, of Austin, Texas, died after his brother, Michael, 51, shot him multiple times in the back following an argument in the driveway at 9865 Chateau Drive, Baton Rouge, according to a Police Department news release.
Michael called 911 at 6:28 a.m. and told dispatchers he shot his brother, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
When police arrived, Michael told detectives he believed Wayne was going to “beat him up” during an argument outside his family’s home, the affidavit says.
Michael admitted he never saw a weapon in his brother’s hands, the affidavit says.
Michael then walked inside, retrieved a gun, returned outside and fatally shot his brother, the department news release says.
Detectives wrote in the affidavit that evidence at the crime scene corroborated Michael’s story.
Michael Hebert, 51, 9865 Chateau Drive, Baton Rouge, was arrested and booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on counts of second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon, the release says.
