Bill to delay taxes for elderly passes Bill to delay taxes for elderly passes capitol news bureau May 31, 2013 Comments Legislators may study whether financially strapped homeowners 65 or older should be allowed to delay payment of their property taxes. State Sen. A.G. Crowe, R-Slidell, told the state Senate Friday morning that he converted a bill into a resolution because more time is needed to look at the issue. The Senate voted 29-4 in favor of Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 121. The Senate Committee on Revenue and Fiscal Affairs and the House Committee on Ways and Means will meet jointly to decide whether Louisiana should join more than a dozen states in allowing payment of property taxes to be delayed until elderly homeowners’ deaths. Assessors opposed the proposal when it was a bill. They argued it would be cumbersome and costly.
