Bill to close Lake Charles charity hospital advances

Legislation authorizing closure of inpatient beds and emergency room services at LSU’s public hospital in Lake Charles continued to advance Wednesday.

The Louisiana House Health and Welfare Committee backed the Senate-approved proposal without objection, sending it to the full House for consideration.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 98 is part of a plan to shift those services from W.O. Moss Regional Medical Center to a nearby community hospital, which would build a new, $5 million outpatient clinic at the Moss site.
