The House voted 102-0 in favor of House Bill 352, sponsored by state Rep. Joe Harrison, R-Napoleonville. The bill now moves to the state Senate. HB352 would abolish the Office of Elderly Affairs within the governor’s office and create a new state department devoted to senior citizen issues, such as funding for councils on aging, senior centers and meals on wheels. The department only would be created if another agency is abolished or a constitutional amendment passes authorizing a new department.
