Capitol news bureau May 14, 2013 Comments Members of Council on Aging groups from around the state visited the State Capitol on Wednesday for Senior Day at the Louisiana Legislature. They attended a variety of House and Senate committee hearings, and lobbied legislators to restore House Bill 1, the state’s spending plan that will be debated on the floor of the Louisiana House on Thursday. The proposed state budget includes the elimination of some services for seniors. For instance, the closing of six senior centers in Jefferson Parish. Located in key neighborhoods throughout Jefferson Parish, the senior center is the daily focal point for many otherwise isolated members, according to a news release by the Jefferson Council on Aging. The Aging and Disabilities Resource Centers and the Senior Rx program could be cut.
