Bill to exempt some disabled students from taking ACT clears Senate Bill to exempt some disabled students from taking ACT clears Senate capitol news bureau May 01, 2013 Comments Legislation to exempt students with disabilities from taking a college preparation test cleared the state Senate Wednesday. Senate Bill 127 would require the students to opt into taking the ACT. Students’ nonparticipation would not factor into a school’s performance scores. The bill’s sponsor, state Sen. Gary Smith, D-Norco, said students would not have to take the test unless their parents think they should take it. The Senate voted 38-0 in favor of advancing the proposal to the Louisiana House.
