Legislation that would have limited liability on “good faith” reporting of suspicious activity failed in a state Senate committee Tuesday.
The Senate Judiciary A Committee deferred action on Senate Bill 24 after questions rose whether the protection was necessary.
SB24 sponsor state Sen. Bodi White said he wants the public to know that they can safely report activity they believe has a potential for criminal or terrorist activity.
“This is just one thing we can do as a state,” said White, R-Central.
“I just don’t know that it’s doing anything. That degree of comfort could be a detriment,” said state Sen. Danny Martiny, R-Kenner.
Someone would still have been liable if there was gross negligence or wilful or wanton misconduct involved.
