Man gets 35 years in killing Man gets 35 years in killing Advocate staff report April 09, 2013 Comments A Baton Rouge man was sentenced to 35 years in prison after pleading guilty Monday in a 2008 shooting on Conrad Drive that left a 19-year-old man dead and three others injured. Sanchez Reddick, 24, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the March 26, 2008, killing of Dexter Varise and attempted second-degree murder, prosecutor Julie Cullen said. Reddick was scheduled to stand trial Monday in state District Judge Mike Erwin’s courtroom on charges of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder. Reddick was accused of killing Varise near a driveway in the 3000 block of Conrad Drive, police have said. Reddick allegedly exchanged gunfire with Varise after attempting to rob Varise and three other youths, who survived their wounds, police said. Reddick was returned to Baton Rouge in the fall of 2009 from New Orleans, where he had been held for a year on unrelated drug counts.
