Covington woman dies in I-12 crash Monday morning Covington woman dies in I-12 crash Monday morning Advocate staff report April 02, 2013 Comments A Covington woman was killed Monday morning in a multivehicle crash on Interstate 12 in Tangipahoa Parish, a State Police spokesman said. The crash happened after 6 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-12 at the La. 445 exit, Trooper First Class Nick Manale said in a news release. Terry Gerot, 71, was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene, Manale said. Gerot, who was driving a 2003 Ford pickup, crashed into the back of a Dodge utility truck that was stopped behind a “disabled” sedan in the left westbound lane, Manale said in the release. The Dodge truck had turned on its emergency lights to warn oncoming traffic, Manale said in the release. The driver of the sedan, Kalin Mckenzie, 20, of Sandy Hook, Miss., and the driver of the Dodge truck, Michael Lawrence, 33, of Slidell, received minor injuries in the crash, Manale said in the release.
